Courtoisie is a decorative headboard that structures the space and defines its character, becoming in every respect an architectural element capable of giving depth and identity to the sleeping area.
Created to go beyond a purely ornamental role, it interacts with the environment, welcomes those who experience it and builds a relationship thanks to a form designed to engage with the user, stimulating perception and everyday experience.
The choice of materials expresses Bolzan’s savoir faire: made from a combination of blockboard and curved plywood, the headboard integrates a milled workmanship in which a Dedar fabric is hand woven. The surfaces are treated with an oil that enhances the value of the material and protects it over time.
“My idea was to give the headboard an active role in the perception of space, transforming it into a structure that envelops the bed, to create a sense of protection and intimacy. Its curved edge is not just a formal detail, but a design choice that generates a sort of ‘roof’, a covering that shelters and welcomes. This enveloping form not only frames the bed, but amplifies the feeling of comfort and safety, turning this area into a true refuge within the room.”
